My boyfriend and I spent Memorial Day weekend relaxing in Saratoga Springs, NY. Since it was off-season at the Saratoga Race Course, it was very peaceful. We spent most of the weekend walking through the park to the main race track (which was closed, unfortunately) and browsing the small shops on Broadway.
We also had some notable meals. Our first stop was lunch at Sperry’s Restaurant. The food was nothing to write home about, but the outdoor patio and attention to detail made it a perfect spot to relax after a long drive.
Hattie’s Fried Chicken was a completely different story. The decor was very kitschy, but it was the best fried chicken I’ve ever had in my life, just as promised. But the highlight of our trip was our excursion to the Roosevelt Baths. We each took 40 minute baths in the slightly disconcerting brown-colored water (the natural minerals straight from the earth cause the discoloration). The old-fashioned tubs make you feel as if you are stepping back in time, maybe all the way back to the 1930’s when the Baths were constructed.
